(Al Hadeed) 57 : 23
So that you may not despair upon whatever you missed, and that you may not rejoice with whatever you are given; and Allah doesn’t love the arrogant cheater, the boastful.
The hypocrites who lost the aim of life and became arrogant cheaters and vainglorious boasters are those who despair over whatever is lost to them and those who rejoice regarding whatever they are given. They, by forgetting Allah, who acquaints Himself with all His creatures and observes them, do not fulfill the Covenant made with Allah from Paradise as explained in verses 7: 172-173. They are serving Satan as explained in verses 36: 59-62 and are following his footsteps as explained in verses 2: 168-169. See explanation 3: 153-154; 9: 55, 67-68; 21: 35.
